There is a reason why I have a butterfly on my website. The butterfly starts out as a caterpillar, and wraps itself in a silken cocoon. It wants to get out as soon as possible thinking this is it’s purpose….to be an amazing, beautiful, multicolored insect. What it doesn’t understand as it struggles to get free is that the exercise is building its strength.  

If you see a cocoon, you don’t want to help the butterfly get out. It was a fat caterpillar before it started its temporary home. If it tried to fly it would be too heavy and would fall to the ground. It needs to push and twist and wiggle its way out to lose the extra weight. It works every day and soon it will become leaner and more resilient. Its wings that were once crumpled will begin to stretch, revealing the beautiful patterns you see that look like mini stained glass windows in the air.  For the first time the butterfly realizes it had to go through the challenges it faced. This was its opportunity for growth.

The butterfly story has become a tale of transformation, reminding everyone that sometimes we need to work through our challenges. Then we will learn life lessons which will give us the courage to embrace the rest of our journey with beauty and grace.
